Lisa Gunning

Lisa has directed numerous outstanding films, from a commission by Nowness for Mini Countryman to the latest campaigns for Kaiser Permanente (for Campbell Ewald) and Hewlett Packard (for Fred & Farid).

Her award-winning feature length music film for electronic duo Goldfrapp, ‘Tales Of Us’, was screened in over 500 cinemas worldwide.

After graduating from University College London with a degree in English Literature, Gunning started her career at The Whitehouse Post where she edited a multitude of commercials for top agencies such as Wieden & Kennedy, 72 and Sunny and Mother for Nike, Levi’s, Adidas, VW, Guinness, Samsung and Landrover.

Her work with directors such as Stacy Wall, Daniel Klienman and Jonathan Glazer lead to a comic relief campaign for Anthony Minghella, igniting a successful film career. After cutting some musical sequences for ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’, Gunning’s first feature was Minghella’s ‘Breaking & Entering’.

She went on to cut for several more Oscar winning directors, ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’ for Lasse Hallstrom and ‘Seven Psychopaths’ for Martin McDonagh. Gunning has also collaborated extensively with artist and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson, first on ‘Love you more’, then ‘Nowhere Boy’ and ’50 Shades of Grey’.

More recently, Gunning worked on ‘Newness’ for Netflix, which premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. While there, she also showcased her own 60s film titled, ‘The High Diver’ for Google on climate change.

Passionate about storytelling, she strives to access the core emotion in her films, forensically developing characters and crafting performances.

“I’m interested in making things that move people… laughter, tears, transporting the audience somewhere else…” Gunning says. “It’s magical when you can do that.”

Since signing to Black Label, Lisa has directed commercials for Indeed, OnStar and Glenfiddich.
